A MOTOR racing legend has teamed up with his friend from Winsford to help raise awareness of prostate cancer.

Sir Stirling Moss OBE joined Gary Steele, of Cherry Crescent, at Earls Court in London on Friday to raise money for the Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Gary, who is chairman of the group, said: "Stirling had prostate cancer and that is how I met him about three years ago and we have remained good friends."

The support group sponsors a Class F MG racing car and Gary went to London to show off the car and hand out leaflets on prostate cancer.

He said: "It was a hugely successful event for us because we get to spread the word to so many people.

"To have the support of someone like Stirling is amazing because straight away you have everyone coming over to your stall to meet him.

"It was incredible the amount of people who were coming over to get his autograph and speak to him.

"He is a wonderful person and can still drive a car like you would never believe."

Gary is holding a number of events in Winsford before the end of the year in an attempt to raise £30,000 for laparoscopy equipment at Leighton Hospital to treat prostate cancer.

Firefighters from Winsford will pull a fire engine around the town centre on December 16 and the fire cadets will be bag packing at Asda.

Gary said: "We will be really busy until the end of the year.

"We have already raised £24,000 in just five months so hopefully it won't be long until we reach our target."
