In the quarter-final of the Pennine President's Cup, Queensbury snatched victory from league rivals Keighley Albion in a thriller.

Once again it was the boot of prop Brett Marriott that was to prove decisive as his penalty kick soared over just two minutes from time to give Bury a 22-21 win.

Albion set the early pace with a penalty from Andy Bowness which was quickly cancelled out by a similar Marriott effort for Bury.

Albion again took the lead when Steve Wrench forced his way over, successfully converted by Bowness.

However, not to be outdone Bury struck back within five minutes through winger Luke Brearcliffe, Marriott with the extras.

Bury quickly stepped up a gear in the second half and it took only four minutes for scrum half Carl Smith to dance his way over the whitewash. Smith duly goaled his effort and Bury had the advantage for the first time.

However, in a cracking game it was Albion's turn to hit back when the lively Bowness showed he wasn't going to be left out and crashed over for a try. His successful conversion levelled the scores at 14-14.

With ten minutes to go, Albion stand-off Bobby Brown landed a drop goal but Bury's response was swift as the hard-working Gareth Hobson spotted a gap in the defence and touched down. Marriott added the two points to extend their lead to 20-15.

In a topsy turvy affair the home side again struck back as Albion's Andy Stokes dived over and Bowness added the pressure kick to edge them in front at 21-20.

With the clock showing just two minutes remaining, some Albion indiscipline presented Marriott with the opportunity to secure Bury's place in the semi-final.

In a Bradford derby with everything at stake, Victoria Rangers gave Birkenshaw a real President's Cup scare before going down 32-10.

With Vics having conceded 500 points this season and Birky having scored over 500, the game appeared to be a complete mismatch on paper but, as is often the case, the cup brings out that extra fighting spirit.

Vics showed that in bucket-loads despite the eviction from their Eccleshill ground and having to agree to play the tie at Birky.

They produced a great defensive display in the first half and, thanks to winger Damian Smith's try on 15 minutes, only trailed 12-4 at half-time.

In the second half Birky took control of the game but Vic's brave effort was rewarded with a try by stand-off Ross Gratton.

Scrum half Peter Snell was Vics' man of the match with his eye-catching display and two conversions.

In the quarter-final of the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy, West Bowling A' secured a semi-final spot with a well-deserved 24-12 victory over Slaithwaite Saracens.

Bowling used their home advantage to full effect and their experience proved to be too much for their fourth division visitors.

Bowling's try-scorers were scrum half Adam Bowes, forward Ben Kelly, hooker Sha Basha and second row Ryan Hunkin. Stand-off Mark Dunning chipped in with another man-of-the-match display after helping himself to six conversions.

Wyke also booked their place in the semi-final with a fantastic result at Ackworth Jaguars. The Jaguars, who are pushing for promotion to Division One of the Pennine League and have only lost once this season, were edged out 20-10 by the black and whites.
