A MAMMOTH cheque for £5,350 was presented to Musgrove Leukaemic Group on Wednesday (April 4) by Burnham and Berrow Golf Club following a heavy year of fundraising.

The cash was collected at a series of events during 2006, the main one of which was the charity dinner and auction in October where rugby player JPR Williams spoke.

Club captain Dr Harvey Sampson told the Weekly News the money would be used to provide new facilities and services for cancer and leukaemia sufferers at Musgrove Park Hospital.

"Many local people from Burnham and the surrounding district are treated in Musgrove, including my father who was treated there for leukaemia in 2002," he said.

"I would like to say a big thank you to the members of Burnham and Berrow Golf Club and also to many local businesses for their support in the course of my captain's year.

"I hope the Musgrove Leukaemic Group will continue to attract local support."
