CHILDREN from two Pershore schools are helping a project to create a new piece of public art in the town.
Holy Redeemer Primary School and Abbey Park First School pupils have been asked by Wychavon District Council for design ideas for a tree carving.
Children have been making clay models of what they would like to see carved into an Abbey Park tree.
Tewkesbury artist Tom Harvey will use the models as inspiration for the work in April.
The tree, a diseased 80-year-old purple beech, was largely felled in 2006 but the trunk was left.
Parks officer Lynn Stevens said the tree had started to shed limbs and was a danger. She added: "We took the opportunity to have an artist in the park and he will use a chainsaw to work the design into the tree."
The clay models are on display in Pershore Abbey until March 30.
