MORE than 60 new trees are now taking root in Bacup, thanks to a company's environmental drive.
As part of its national Plant A Local Tree Not A Cartridge campaign, Rawtenstall-based Cartridge World planted the trees at Thornbank, behind the Maden Centre, under the supervision of Groundwork Rossendale.
Launched in July last year, the campaign aims to encourage people to refill cartridges rather than throw them away for landfill.
Cartridge World customers at the Queens Square shop receive a stamp on a loyalty card whenever they refill a cartridge or toner.
For every full card Cartridge World have pledged to plant a tree in the local area.
Managing director Darren Turner said: "When we launched the scheme we never knew quite how successful it would be - to have 65 loyalty cards which equals 65 trees is great for the area."
Craig Morris from Groundwork Rossendale said: "The site and its wildlife will benefit from the native hedgerow that has been planted."
