SIR - I was horrified to read about the bonus paid to Education Bradford (T&A, March 22) I am a retired primary schoolteacher who has been through Bradford's schools as a child and as a teacher.

To work for Bradford Education Authority in the 1950s was a privilege as it was one of the leading authorities in the country. Our salaries were paid by three officers only. What has happened to it now?

Year 1 (five to six-year-olds) have to study Victorian England.

The nursery at the local school has been desperate for a new building for years and yet the staff are the best in the area.

Why is any money paid at all to a company to run the education in Bradford when they have to make a profit? Surely any money made should be ploughed back to the schools.

Let us get the primary school children able to do the three Rs beforelearning history. This can be done when the children know what it all means. It need only be delayed for about three years.

Where, oh where has common sense gone?
