KEV Coles believes a successful cup run would be just reward' for the loyalty shown to penniless Fairford, as their season finally looks to be getting back on track.

After an understandable blip due to financial uncertainty, and ultimately the axeing of a playing budget, Fairford have returned to form in style, firing in 10 goals in their last two games.

Ady Roper's men travel to lower league Cricklade tomorrow in the first round of the Supplementary Cup, knowing a potential tie against Malmesbury Vics is up for grabs.

While many dismiss the competition as a cup for losers, Fairford skipper Coles, pictured above, insists his teammates are taking it very seriously.

He said: "People do knock it, but it is not at all like that for us. It is a game of football at the end of the day and we will be looking to win.

"There is a long way to go still as a tie against Malmesbury would only be a last 16 game but hopefully we can progress.

"It has been difficult at times this season but a cup final would be a nice day out for the lads and just reward for their loyalty this season."

Coles was a goalscorer in Tuesday night's 5-2 hammering of Shrivenham ans admits everyone is enjoying their football again at Cinder Lane.

Tuesday's hat-trick hero Dave Slattery is doubtful for the clash, with manager Roper praising the contribution of the former Supermarine man.

He said: "It was typical Slatts on Tuesday. He was saying he wasn't properly fit and so I said I would play him for a half, he could get a hat-trick and then I would bring him off.

"He only went and did it. The lads have been brilliant and hopefully the corner has now been turned for the rest of the season."
