THE children's oncology room at Basildon Hospital has been given a facelift thanks to the Thurrock Tigers Football Club.
The club raised £800 to refurbish the room in memory of one of their founders, Sandeep Singh, who lost his fight to cancer in July.
He had been a patient at the hospital's Wagtail Ward.
Sullander Singh, Mr Singh's uncle and now club manager, said sometimes even the smallest act could help people with cancer.
He said: "The club is pleased that its very small effort has made a difference to the patients of the oncology room.
"The Club wanted to demonstrate how the beautiful game of football can have a wider community responsibility in helping make a difference."
Claire Gadd, Paediatric Oncology Lead, said the refurb had created a relaxed, more family environment for the kids.
She said: "This will make a huge difference to children and their families at what can be a particularly difficult time for the child and family as much time is spent away from home.
"We would like to extend our thanks to Thurrock Tigers and Sandeep's family for their generous donation."
