Nearly 2,000 homes in Idle were plunged into darkness when a 11,000 volt cable exploded at a sub-station in Thackley last night.
Fire crews from Idle and Shipley isolated a fire on a faulty station on Ellar Carr Road after 11.30pm.
A spokesman for electricity suppliers, YEDL, said: "1,950 homes suffered a powercut at 11.28pm. Power was restored to 345 properties by 12.16am and the remainder by 12.25am.
"We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience."
