CROYDON have cut the gap at the top of the table to eight points after a day of surprise results in the Kent Football League Premier Division.

Leaders Whitstable Town left it late to keep up their unbeaten season with a point against Faversham while Thamesmead Town and Hythe Town lost to lower opposition.

VCD Athletic gave the weekend's results some familiarity beating Lordswood at Oakwood.

Whitstable were grateful to Sam Prett for a last-minute goal which cancelled out Bradley Maguire's opener for Faversham.

The draw meant Croydon's 3-0 win over Slade Green, with goals from Bill Warner (two) and Tim Murdoch, cut the gap at the top to eight points although Whitstable still have a game in hand.

Thamesmead Town lost 3-1 at home to Deal Town in front of the afternoon's lowest crowd of just 47.

Deal were three up thanks to a Dave Bathgate penalty, a John Utterson strike and a rare goal from Michael Cassar before Ross Cable scored Mead's consolation from the penalty spot eight minutes from time.

Hythe Town, in fourth at the start of play, slipped up losing to Sevenoaks Town at Reachfields with Tony Atkins scoring the only goal of the game.

VCD Athletic took advantage of the Hythe result to go fourth with a 3-0 home win against Lordswood.

First half goals from Leroy Huggins, Lee Coburn and Steve Hogg mean the Oakwood side are well placed with at least three games in hand on the teams above them.

At the foot of the table, there was a six-goal thriller between Tunbridge Wells and Sporting Bengal United.

Wells took the lead when Dave Hassett found the net, Rahman levelled before Hassett grabbed his second.

Rahman went onto score his second of the game before Benjamin Manning put Bengal in front, with nine minutes left, for the first time.

But Luke Wallend equalised for Wells on 84 minutes and the points were shared.

Erith Town were 10 minutes away from a rare victory at Herne Bay after Scott Edwards opened the scoring on 35 minutes.

However, Bay's Luke Harvey equalised late in the game to deny Erith their fourth win of the season.

At Eden Park Avenue, Beckenham Town won their 11th match of the season beating Greenwich Borough 2-1.

Jones Awuah and Jamie Turner netted for the home side before Ben Uddin scored a late consolation.
