Port Vale 2 v 0 Millwall

Coca Cola League One

WILLIE Donachie has admitted his side's hopes of reaching the play-offs have been all but extinguished.

Danny Whitaker and Akpo Sodje scored the goals which condemned Millwall to their second defeat on the spin.

There is now a 10 point gap between the Lions and the play-off places.

Donachie said: "I was disappointed with the Vale result.

"I felt defensively we did not cope as well with their front two as we could have done, while at the other end in spite of creating chances to get something out of the game we could not take any of them."

He added: "Our aim now still has to be to win our remaining seven games and I can assure you we will not allow the season to tail off lamely."

Lions new boy Ryan Smith, a month-long loanee from Derby County, made his debut as a second-half substitute while Nathan Ashton, on loan from Charlton Athletic, spent a second game on the bench.

Millwall now have two home fixtures in a row starting on Saturday with the visit of Swansea City.

They then welcome promotion hopefuls, Nottingham Forest.
