A TWO-year-old girl who became trapped in a locked car at Tycroes had to be freed by firemen yesterday morning (Tuesday), writes Emma Evans-Gray.

But far from being distressed little Caitlin Jones simply unbuckled her car seat, kicked off her shoes and began colouring!

Her dad Richard, 31, an implementation manager for Virgin Media, said cheeky Caitlin made faces at the firefighters through the window as they struggled to free her.

Mr Jones said the drama unfolded as he prepared to take his daughter to nursery.

"I closed the door because it was windy and the car automatically locked itself," he said. "I then realised that my keys were in the car."

Mr Jones phoned his wife Sarah, 33, who rang the fire brigade. "They arrived with the blue lights and sirens on," said Mr Jones, of Penygarn Road, Tycroes. "I was so embarrassed."

Officers used a specialist tool to prise the door open and free an unfazed Caitlin.

"Her first words to me were Daddy, breakfast'," said Mr Jones.

"My wife phoned ahead of us and the nursery had her food ready."

Mr Jones and his wife thanked the fire fighters and everyone else who helped. "We are so very grateful to them all," he said.
