Preston North End manager Paul Simpson revealed he had been deluged with emails from fans accusing the team of blowing promotion after last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Hull.

After the victory against Ipswich on Tuesday, Simpson said: "Before tonight everybody thought it was all doom and gloom and the amount of emails I have had over this week saying that we have blown it.

"That's disappointing because we still believe that we are in with a chance."

"We wanted a result tonight more than anything and we wanted a performance but we ended up getting nervy and the crowd got nervy.

"The crowd were booing and probably after about 15 minutes there were groans coming because it wasn't exactly what they wanted.

"But we have got a massive 1-0 victory and looking at results there are a few teams up at the top who would have snapped their hands off for a 1-0 victory tonight."
