SUTTON United were taken to extra-time by home team Colwall Rangers before easing their way into the second round of the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Strong-bow Cup with a 5-4 win.

The sides were locked 4-4 at the end of normal time but a goal in the first period of extra-time decided it.

Sutton started well but were left to rue missed early chances when Tim Rutherford beat his man on the edge of the box and shot Rangers in front.

Sutton hit back straight away and were on level terms when defender Adrian Jones turned the ball past his own keeper, and then took the lead before the break when Stuart New converted a penalty.

The well-contested game took another twist in the second half when two almost identical goals from Jamie Welch put Colwall back in front.

When the ball was centred from the left wing, he got in front of his marker and headed home.

Roy Jordan drilled the ball home to make it 3-3, Tim Rutherford scored his second to put the home side back in front, and then Jones scored his second own goal of the game to send the tie into extra time.

Patrick Hall netted the visitors' winner, albeit with a hint of Jones getting the final touch.

Leominster Town produced an impressive performance to eliminate Ledbury Town Reserves 4-0 at Bridge Street Sports Centre.

Leominster started confidently and turned their early pressure into a goal when Richard Legdon turned in a cross from Lee Langford on 15 minutes.

Soon afterwards, Dean Jordan sprang the visitors' off-side trap and burst clear to put Leominster two-up.

They made it three just before half-time when Legdon rounded off an eye-catching movement involving Taffy Evans, Jason Evans and Langford with a good strike.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first with the home side in control and Legdon rounded off his hat-trick with another strike from a Langford assist.

Leominster had further chances to score but, in the end, were happy with their first clean sheet of the campaign to extend their improved form.

Bartestree, who are making a good impression in their first season in the top flight, squeezed through 6-5 on penalties against visiting Hinton after looking comfortable winners with 10 minutes of normal time remaining.

Hinton pulled two goals back to make the score 2-2 and send the game into extra-time and then a penalty shoot-out in-spite of being down to 10 men due to injuries.

Bartestree took the lead when Gareth Griffiths converted a penalty after Steve Dixon had been brought down. When Dixon gained a second penalty he took it himself but the Hinton keeper saved.

Matt Aubrey extended the lead after the break. He turned his defender inside the area and fired the ball home.

The home side had a number of chances to kill off Hinton but failed to beat their in-form keeper. As often happens, the visitors looked more dangerous with 10 men and scored twice in the last eight minutes - the first a bobble that beat the keeper - to send the tie into extra-time.

With no further score, penalties were needed to settle the outcome. At the end of the first phase, the score on penalties stood at 5-5 and went into sudden death. Hinton struck the post with their next attempt and Lewis Dixon kept his cool to see Bartestree home.

Wellington Rangers got the better of home team Kington Town 3-2 in another tight clash.

During an evenly-contested first half Rangers took the lead but James Williams bundled the ball home during a scramble to tie the score at 1-1 10 minutes before the break.

Wellington took the lead again but missed a good chance to increase the pressure on the home team when Kington goalkeeper Simon Hamer saved a penalty after Adam Hildrop was penalised.

Wellington did score from the penalty spot after Joe Maygothling was penalised for pushing.

But, although they rarely looked like sending the game into extra time, Kington gave themselves a chance when Stuart Purton headed in from a good run and cross from the influential Richie Bore.

In the quarter-finals, to be played on Saturday, December 16, holders Westfields face a tough task when they visit Sutton United.

Last season's runners-up Woofferton have also been drawn away and will visit Wellington Rangers.

Ewyas Harold will visit Leominster Town while Bartestree and Pegasus look to be fairly evenly matched in the round's other tie.
