SO what is all this fuss about two old wooden doors?
As a resident of Knutsford, born and bred here, I recall with affection how our town looked like between the wars.
I think it could be described as quaint, with plenty of history embodied in it.
Of course, some things must change, for reasons many and varied: health and safety, lighting and protection from vandals.
But changing a feature to the frontage of an historic building in a conservation area is surely overstepping the mark?
Then to slap a for sale' notice on to its original (or nearly original) doors is quite offensive.
Knutsford Methodist Church has a large congregation drawn there not only to worship but also by the fellowship of a welcome, friendship and caring. I am sure these important qualities are not going to be improved by having glass doors.
No, there is a difference between the superficiality of considering the doors to be old-fashioned and recognising their value as an historic part of our heritage which needs to be preserved.
