Dougie Lampkin finished third in the opening round of the world outdoor trials championship in Spain and Cookridge's James Dabill landed sixth place behind the Silsden ace.

Dabill's position was his best ever at world level and he heads for Guatemala in three weeks with ten championship points under his belt. Spaniard Toni Bou won the event.

In the European Union championship junior class at the same venue, Warwick's Ross Danby grabbed second behind Alfedo Gomez.

Meanwhile, Ben Hemingway added his name to the illustrious Ilkley Trophy after battling with his brother Dan and cousin Harry Lampkin.

The brother of the world champion set a cracking pace for the three laps of Middleton Moor in 1hr 42.27mins and that was faster than his other cousin James Lampkin. Otley's John Lydamore gained the best newcomer.
