SHIPSTON First Responders have been presented with a potentially life-saving new automated external defibrillator by Turbine Blading Ltd.

The Station Road company was so impressed to hear about the work of the responders it donated money from its community welfare fund to buy the new machine.

The responders are a small group of volunteers who are part of Coventry and Warwickshire Ambulance Service, responding to emergencies in the town. They are called out to help anyone who suddenly collapses possibly suffering from a heart attack. The defibrillators deliver an electric shock which can send the heart back into its regular rhythm.

Living in Shipston, the responders aim to get out to the casualty within minutes.

Co-ordinator Keith Higginson said: "The management at Turbine Blading have been marvellous and we are very grateful for their support."

Anyone who would like to train as a first responder should call Keith on 01608 662341 or Andy Allen, community defibrillation officer at Coventry and Warwickshire Ambulance Trust on 01926 881331.
