NORTH Star A have opened up a two point lead over Semington Rovers at the top of Division One after they came from behind to beat Coyote FC 6-3 last night.

When North Star visited Coyote, then Kings Arms (Trowbridge), on the opening day of the season honours were divided after the teams fought out a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Since then Coyote have never really got their act together while Calne-based North Star have suffered just two losses from their 17 games to date, a run which has taken them to the verge of promotion back to the top flight.

Coyote must have feared the worst when Tommy Ludford put the hosts in front within 30 seconds of the start of the game. Ten minutes later Pete Thornton made it 2-0 and the Star looked as if they were about to go on the rampage.

But it wasn't to be as Coyote dragged themselves back into the game when Nathan Flower rifled home a stunning 30 yard volley to reduce the home side's lead to one goal. This was wiped out when a North Star defender headed past his own goalkeeper when he attempted to clear a Coyote free kick. Coyote then stunned their hosts by taking the lead with another quality finish. This time Chris Carr picked his spot from 25 yards out and judged his finish to perfection as his fantastic strike made it 3-2 in favour of the visitors.

North Star were not behind for long but it came as great relief when Dale Smith found the net to bring the scores level. Mark Dolman regained the lead for the Star with his 25th goal of the season and with Coyote pushing men forward looking for an equaliser they left themselves exposed at the back and with five minutes remaining North Star finally killed the game off, with Mark Dolman scoring his second of the game. The scoring was completed by Tommy Ludford in the final moments, almost 90 minutes after he had started the scoring.

The Star's reign in pole position as sole leaders is likely to last only 48 hours as Semington have the opportunity to move back level with the Star at the summit tomorrow night when they visit Chippenham Police where two points should be assured.
