McFLY are perhaps one of the few bands around at the moment that write, sing and play their own material - a rare thing these days, but how would they fare on stage?

I wasn't sure what to expect, would I get another miming pop band without much of a stage presence?

With excitement building by the second, the amazing atmosphere was set by support act Little Chris - he of Rock School fame - the audience were singing along to the background music before McFly appeared on stage.

Opening with Please Please from their latest album Motion in The Ocean, the high standard was set by the first few songs, and with guitar changes between every song you could see they were playing live and creating an intimate stage presence.

The boys continued with a set list comprising Transylvania, All About You and even a rousing rendition of Ray Parker Jr's 80s' classic Ghostbusters.

It was obvious that the majority of the audience were "repeat offenders" in attending a McFly concert, which shows how likeable the boys are and how good they are musically.

With the knowledge that McFly have added several dates to this provincial tour and are about to embark on an arena tour, it could be a long time before they visit Newport again, so if you do get chance to catch them, don't miss it.
