ABINGDON'S South League campaign came to a disappointing end when they were beaten 6-1 at home by Area Division 1 champions Amersham & Chalfont.
However, the match was more evenly balanced than the scoreline suggests.
Amersham raced to a two-goal lead midway through the first half against the run of play through Mark van Duyvenbode and Martin Cartledge.
Mark Ward made it 3-0 before Abingdon keeper Phil Wong saved a weak penalty.
Ron Smith pulled one back for the home side, crashing the ball into the net at the second attempt at a penalty corner.
But further goals from Cartledge, Richard Martin and David Crossman sealed the result.
Abingdon's Andy Maunder was shown a yellow card, for disputing Martin's controversial score.
