THE Press' Live Now, Drive Later campaign has already won the strong support of York's coroner, MPs and the families of Joel Corner and Peter Alexander.
The campaign was launched last Saturday, a day after we reported the inquest into last April's triple fatal crash in Stockton Lane, York.
The inquest heard how Joel, 15, took his father's Audi car without permission and drove wildly around York before crashing at 68 mph into Peter Alexander's The Press delivery van, killing himself, his 15-year-old front seat passenger Daniel Wright and Mr Alexander.
Joel's father, Lee, and Mr Alexander's son, Stuart, have both agreed to take part in a hard-hitting video, which The Press intends to produce and hopes will be shown to pupils at schools in the York area.
They both said they hoped the video might help prevent a repeat of the tragedy by deterring other teenagers from taking cars.
Coroner Donald Coverdale has given the campaign his wholehearted support, and also praised the courage of Mr Alexander and Mr Corner for agreeing to get involved. York MP Hugh Bayley and Selby MP John Grogan have also backed the campaign, saying they hope something good can come of a tragedy.
