Basildon's South Essex Gymnastic Club had nine members competing in the re-launched levels four and three Regional Championships.

Under the new rules for the levels the content is much more demanding and the deductions for mistakes are more severe.

Despite this, all nine scored well enough to pass and to qualify for the national finals in May.

In level three, Jodie Clarke-Rivers scored 12.20 on the very demanding range and conditioning routine and finished second overall with a score of 58.60.

Amelia Morris scored 12.05 on bars and finished fourth with a score of 56.425. Both were selected to represent the east region at the national finals.

In the level four competition for nine-year-olds Kensie Sherlock and Chantelle Halford finished second and third respectively and both gymnasts managed to score 12 plus on all four pieces of apparatus.

Sherlock scored an exceptional 12.8 on vault and Halford achieved the same score on floor.

Kaylise North finished in fourth place, while Brooke Norman, Sophie Valsaycer, Alyssa Sumun and Michaela Lee all achieved a pass at level four.

Sherlock, Halford and North were selected to represent the East Region at the national finals while the others scored enough to go as individuals.
