A BRIERLEY Hill woman had a Mother's Day to remember with her twin babies after seven years of trying.

Helen Wilkinson and husband Adam spent last Sunday in the company of their twins William John and Elizabeth Hannah who were born six weeks early on December 8 last year.

The pair weighed 5lbs 1oz and 3lbs 10oz respectively and spent 20 days in a special care unit.

The couple suffered heartbreak in 2002 when Helen miscarried at ten weeks. It was later revealed the miscarriage had caused scar tissue in her womb which would make it difficult to conceive.

Helen, aged 40, said: "Last year I spent Mothers' Day in tears as we were just about to start our third treatment cycle, so Sunday was a really special day for me - and for Adam's mum, who is now a granny for the first time.

"We enjoyed every minute of it."

After two unsuccessful cycles of IVF treatment Helen and Adam started their third cycle early last year.

The couple had two years of IVF treatment at Midland Fertility Services before the birth of their twins.

Helen said: "Knowing that this would be our last attempt actually took away some of the pressure. When the two embryos were transferred back into me in May, I just knew that it was going to work."
