BROMSGROVE and District Master Bakers Association held its annual dinner at the Golden Cross Hotel in the town. The main speaker was the national president Vernon Cross, who in his speech told members it was a joy now that the soulless National Loaf, a hangover from the war years, was a thing of the past and bakers could now get on with once again baking a glorious golden crusted loaf instead of one wrapped in waxed paper.

THE search was on to find a new refuse tip for Bromsgrove as the present one at Charford would be full in six months' time. A possible site had been identified between Stoke Holloway and the sewage outfall, but the council's health committee had deemed it unsuitable.

THE remains of what was thought to be a Roman homestead had been identified just 200 yards from Rashwood School on Worcester Road. Fragments of pottery had been unearthed in part of the 50 yard long earthwork which comprised the site, but it had been digging badgers which had provided irrefutable evidence of Roman occupation. Experts were expected to examine the site once permission had been obtained from the landowner.
