THE GLORY days returned for Kendal United as they clinched promotion to Division 3 with a barn-storming 5-3 victory over Burneside A on Saturday.
One-time former top-flight club United were reformed two seasons ago after dropping out of the league went into the match requiring a single point to confirm their elevation.
But 30 seconds from the kick-off they found themselves behind.
In a frantic spell of football that followed, Ollie Davies equalised and United went 4-1 up after 20 minutes with strikes from Robert Warwick, Nick Heads and James Scott.
Burneside then scored either side of half time to make it 4-3 and missed a penalty before Andy Johnson found the target to seal United's 5-3 victory, keeping intact an impressive unbeaten league record of 14 wins and a draw.
Richard Axford, United's coach, said: "We're not going mad yet - we want to go on and be champions. Ninety per cent of the side have come up through United's youth sides and they are still teenagers."
