FULFORD'S Bob Smith inflicted a rare defeat on Ken Taylor (Bootham) to win the York Conservative Clubs' Brian Jeffrey Memorial Over 50s Snooker Trophy.
Smith (+14 handicap) held on to his lead as Taylor (0 handicap) could only manage to add a black to the eight reds he potted while Smith added 24 points to go 38-19 ahead which he went on to convert into a 63-29 victory.
Smith was always in the lead in his semi-final against Acomb's Keith Myers (+14) with some crisp potting.
However, when he potted a frame-winning brown he went in-off to make the scores 59- 44.
Myers needed all four remaining colours but failed on a simple brown to middle pocket. Smith took brown and blue to win 68-44.
Fulford's Jeff Brown (0 handicap) raced away from Taylor in their semi-final to lead 38-10.
However, Taylor roared back to win 54-42.
Match referees were Ian Gillies, Bob Ventress and Ian Ventress. Trophies were presented by John and David Jeffrey.
