POLICE and the Royal Mail are warning residents to be on guard for two scams currently in operation.
Many people in the Pewsey and Marlborough area have received official-looking letters saying they have won a large sum of money on the Spanish national lottery.
One letter sent on to the Gazette said the prize was £710,350, part of a £6.3million shared pay out.
Recipients are asked to ring an international telephone number.
Other people in the area have been receiving cards saying there is a parcel awaiting delivery and asking them to ring a company called PDS on an 0906 number.
In both cases, police warned, anyone ringing either the alleged Spanish lottery number or the one for PDS will be billed a minimum £15 for the phone call.
