The family of the North Oxford teenager killed in Peru are planning a memorial fund to help others fulfil the gap year dream she was tragically denied.

Nineteen-year-old Georgia French, a former Oxford High School pupil, died in a bus crash on a remote mountain pass in the Andes mountains on March 24.

She was just two weeks into the gap year trip of a lifetime she had worked for months to pay for.

Her two school friends, Jessica Last, from Banbury, and Charlotte Mardon-Heath, of North Oxford, survived the crash.

Now Georgia's family, who live in Davenant Road, are planning a memorial fund to help others fulfil their gap year travel ambitions because of Georgia's adventurous spirit.

Last night, they also said they had been overwhelmed by the tributes and condolences sent to them by people from across the globe.

A special website is also under construction - www.georgiafrench.co.uk- for people to post memories and pictures of Georgia, which her family hope will act as a lasting tribute.

A service to remember her life will be held at St Andrew's Church, in Linton Road, next Friday, at 11am.

Georgia's father, Ian French, said the messages of condolence had been a comfort to the family.

He added: "As a family, we have been incredibly affected by the sheer number of people that have been in touch, including people we don't know.

"We just want to thank everybody for the wonderful, wonderful messages of love, comfort and support.

"Clearly, Georgia has touched so many lives and it has confirmed what we always knew, that she was a loving person, and that has been a great comfort to us."

He also thanked the Foreign Office and British Consulate staff in Peru and their colleagues in India, who helped trace their older daughter, Charlotte, who was travelling in a remote part of the country at the time of her sister's death.

The French family have requested that no flowers are brought to the service and said they would prefer that donations are made to the memorial fund.

Details of the fund will be posted on the website.
