A KINGSMEAD family have proved there really ain't no mountain high enough to stop their fundraising efforts.

Little Jamie Pritchard, of Coronet Avenue, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in April 2005 and his parents Ian and Jo decided to rally support to find funds for research into the condition.

The seven-year-old Kingsmead Primary School pupil is now in remission and will join friends, family members and fundraisers on Saturday to celebrate smashing their £20,000 appeal target.

Granddad Les Pritchard, who climbed Kilimanjaro as part of the appeal with Ian and Jamie's uncle Andy and auntie Nicola, said a thank you evening has now been arranged.

He added: "Jamie has made good progress with his treatment and will be present on the 10th to hand over a cheque for £22,900 to the charity.

"The commitment to raise funds was decided in January 2006 when four members of Jamie's family formed Jamie's Walkers to climb Africa's highest mountain Kilimanjaro."

The climb took place in October but other events, such as a wine tasting evening, a children's walk at Kingsmead Primary, a bike ride and a book sale and coffee morning, have helped contribute to the grand total.

The thank you celebration takes place at Huxley village hall this Saturday between 7pm and 9pm and anyone who has helped raise money for the appeal is welcome to attend.
