A Battersea man charged with the murder of pregnant 22-year-old Krystal Hart, who was shot dead over Easter, has been denied bail.

Thomas Sydney Hughes, 40, of Stonells Road, Battersea, spoke in Court One of Wimbledon magistrates' court only to confirm his name, date of birth and address this morning.

He was denied bail and has been remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance in the Central Criminal Court on July 17.

Ms Hart died after being shot twice in the head on Good Friday in Belleville Road, Wandsworth.

Her mother, Deborah Penfold, said there were "no words" to "describe the depths of our despair at the sudden and tragic loss of a most precious and beautiful young woman".

"Not only have I lost my daughter but I've lost my grandchild in the senseless and tragic murder of a young woman in the prime of her life," she said.

"We thank the police and local community for their sympathy and support.

"Krystal was indescribable in every way.

"She leaves a gap which will never be filled and our lives will never be the same again.

"The light she shone will never be overshadowed."

Hughes was charged yesterday after police investigating the murder found a car they were searching for.

Officers had been appealing for information about a black Golf Driver five door car. They found the vehicle in Lyminge Gardens, Wandsworth, at around noon yesterday after a call from a member of the public.

Police originally believed the mum-to-be may have been murdered in a long-running fead with a neighbour over noise and parking.

But Detective Chief Inspector Colin Sutton, who is leading the investigation, said: "Whilst we continue to investigate the possibility that the murder could have been the result of a neighbour dispute, we no longer believe that this was over a parking matter."
