A BALLOON launch at a new Thirsk nursery saw an American join the celebrations in New York.
Jack & Jill's Nursery launched 70 balloons to mark the opening of its new £800,000 site.
Each balloon had a child's name on it plus a request to post it back to the Thirsk Industrial Estate nursery.
Stunned staff were sent Chloe Bowes-Bunker's balloon which had floated 3,500 miles to New York.
Having taken just a week to reach the US, an unknown New Yorker posted it back.
Julie Wernyji, nursery owner, said: "We sent off the balloons at the launch and this one came back last week from Central Park.
"This balloon has been the furthest I know of so far and it's amazing it got so far."
To celebrate her balloon going the furthest, three-year-old Chloe, of Thirsk, won a giant teddy bear.
