OVER 150 new homes are being planned for the outskirts of Taunton.

An application has been submitted to Taunton Deane Council by Abbey Manor Homes, to build 152 apartments and houses on land in between Mill Rise and Silk Mills Lane in Staplegrove.

The company wants to develop the site with a mixture of one, two, two-and-a-half and three storey buildings, with the aim of providing "high-quality urban-living" to create a sustainable community with good public transport links to the town centre.

The application says Abbey Manor Homes is planning to have 30-35% affordable housing on the site, 50% of which will be social rented and 50% intermediate housing.

There will also be two parking spaces allocated for each house and one parking space for apartments.

The application will be determined by the council's planning committee.
