A GROUP of young footballers is taking part in an international festival in Jersey.

The Bishop Auckland and District Primary Schools team, made up of youngsters from across the area, has been invited to compete in the football event, next month.

The festival includes teams from Jersey, Guernsey and France, as well as other areas of England.

Former Newcastle United player Alan Shoulder, who coaches the team, said: "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the boys, and I am sure they will represent the Bishop Auckland area to the best of their ability and do themselves and the area proud.

"The whole party will no doubt look back on this tour as one of the highlights of their time at primary school and I am sure they will meet many new friends."

Mr Shoulder thanked all the individuals and businesses who have helped support the youngsters ahead of the week-long tour, which starts on April 7.

The squad is: Matthew Raine, Jonathan Hutchinson, Adam Nelson, Ben Clarke, Tommy Dawson, Jack Thomson, Will Carr, David Mitchell, Herry Lambard (captain), Kieran Armstrong, Liam Mather, David Gill, Connor Moffat, Connor Lowes, Peter Brown and Liam Gill.
