NORTHWICH residents are getting used to a new face pounding the beat with the addition of a community support officer at Northwich Police Station.

PCSO Mark Abbott, from Winsford, is the latest recruit to join the ranks of Northwich CAT team and is keen to provide a high-visibility, reassuring presence.

Part funded by Vale Royal Borough Council PCSO Abbott works with police colleagues and the council to direct his efforts where they are needed most.

Mark said: "I'm getting out on patrol as often as I can. I've already met lots of residents and I'm keen to meet many more so I can say hello, find out what their concerns are and do all I can to address them."

You may have already seen PCSO Abbott out with CAT officer PC Rob Astbury, who has been acting as his tutor.

He has now completed his tutoring period and is working hard to gain the trust and confidence of members of the public.

He said: "The important thing for people to remember is that I am here to help. If they see me in the street, come over and say hello.

"Even if they have no particular issues or concerns, I think it's important for people to feel comfortable approaching the police."

Having spent 22 years working in electronics and warehousing PCSO Abbott is looking forward to the challenges ahead.

He said: "I changed my career path because I wanted to make a difference. I honestly believe that is something PCSOs can achieve and I'm looking forward to getting out on my beat and doing just that."
