DURHAM is to play a key role in the reintroduction of an old English tradition.
More than 1,000 years on, the Loving Cup of England has been brought back to use for a three- month grand tour in a bid to unite communities and help raise money for charity. The historic silver and gilt cup was officially received at the Gala Theatre in Durham City by city Mayor Jeff Lodge. As part of the project, people are being encouraged to get together on April 23 with their family, friends and colleagues to mark St George's Day with fundraising celebrations.
Three charities - the Association for International Cancer Research, the Royal National Institute for the Deaf and the Women's Royal Voluntary Service - have been chosen to benefit.
