James Hall, the person in charge of the supposedly voluntary ID Card scheme, confirmed that if people wanted to opt out of the pervasive Identity Register that sits behind the innocuous ID card they must "forgo the ability" to have a travel document.

So if you are one of the people who will not allow the Government to join all your personal details up in one dangerous database then it's simple - you just can't have a passport.

People travel for all sorts of reasons beyond holidays. If one is required to travel for work it beggars belief that this travel is voluntary. What are these people supposed to do? It stretches the definition of voluntary beyond breaking point.

With one in every eight people saying they will refuse to sign up to the Government's sinister database, up to five million adults could effectively be refused permission to leave the country.

Anne Snelgrove and Michael Wills have, by repeatedly voting for this law, aided this Government in its obsession with the introduction of ID cards and the creation of the massive national register that sits behind it.

There is no single gain to the citizen, not one. The scheme will bring with it vast costs which have yet to be determined, all of which will be paid for by us through increased taxes.

We will forever be held accountable for updating our identity' we will have no control over who has access to our details and it is likely that Government will even make money from our details by making it available to large organisations.

But, if you don't want to be party to this data rape and you really have got something to hide - your privacy - then all you have to do is forgo the right to a passport.

Swindon NO2ID will continue to work towards repeal of this sinister law. If you would like to know more or would like to join us, we meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the George on Eascott Hill, Swindon or virtually on www.talkswindon.org.
