DETECTIVES are appealing for the help of the public in catching robbers who struck at a shop.

The appeal follows an armed raid on a convenience store in Congleton just before 8pm on Thursday.

Fortunately the female member of staff who was on duty at the time was not injured.

However she was left very shaken by her terrifying ordeal.

The woman was working at the Spar shop in Cross Lane, Congleton, when she was confronted by two men.

One of the men was carrying a gun, which he used to threaten the woman to hand over the cash from the till.

They took the money and fled from the shop on foot.

The woman was able to provide police with brief descriptions of the two men.

One was fairly tall, and wore a dark coat, and his accomplice was shorter and wore a dark hat.

Police said the gun used in the raid was not fired, and no-one was injured.

Cross Lane is in the Hightown area of Congleton, and detectives working on the case are appealing for witnesses.

Officers are hoping someone may have seen the men preparing to go into the shop or entering or leaving the premises.

They do not know if the men used a vehicle to make their getaway.

If anyone can help the investigation into the robbery ring the Special Investigation Unit at Congleton Police Station on 01244-613531.
