AN RAF Harrier plane has crashed near a pub in Oxfordshire - striking a car as it came down.

The driver of the car, thought to be an off-duty policeman, escaped with only cuts and bruises.

The plane came down on the A4260 near the Sturdy's Castle pub in Tackley at about 5pm today.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a low-flying plane and then hearing a loud boom before smoke billowed across the sky.

The crew ejected when the jet was close to the ground and are not believed to be seriously injured.
