Project examines 'honour based violence'

A PROJECT to raise awareness and understanding of the issues around honour based violence and forced marriage is being run in Thames Valley.

The Thames Valley Local Criminal Justice Board has secured funding from the Office of Criminal Justice Reform to run the project that will culminate in a conference to be held at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford, on Friday.

The conference will be opened by Baroness Scotland of Asthal.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "There have already been two honour killings in Oxfordshire alone and it is feared that honour-based violence and forced marriage issues are vastly under-reported given a lack of awareness of the help that is available to victims.

"Honour based violence and forced marriage issues cut across many cultures and communities where that culture is heavily male dominated and where there is forced marriage there is also likely to be rape and domestic abuse. Honour based violence is also a child protection issue.

"It is important to note that Honour Based Violence and Forced Marriage are not supported by any religion and that the problem cuts across all faiths.

"This is a cultural issue and all of the criminal justice agencies, as well as voluntary and professional bodies, have been working hard together to ensure effective joint working and understanding of the particular complexities associated with HBV and forced Marriage.

"The Local Criminal Justice Board has therefore been working with all of the criminal justice agencies as well as schools, hospitals, social services and local councils to raise awareness and create a joined up response to the problem."

Laetisia Staniforth, race and diversity officer for the Criminal Justice Board and co-ordinator of the project said: "This is a really exciting opportunity to have so many agencies represented and working together on this important issue. Through this project the LCJB have taken the lead in responding to a local issue and adopting a partnership approach to improve service throughout the process."

So that won't be- let's see: Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Agnostic or Athiest 'cultures and communities' and is far less prevalent in Sikh and Hindu households.

What does that leave?
Once again, barbaric practices from 'the religion of peace and understanding'.

"It is important to note that Honour Based Violence and Forced Marriage are not supported by any religion and that the problem cuts across all faiths."

More politically correct lies to cover up the real pepetrators and thus impede any real action- this on teh same day that a MUSLIM spokesperson said that the Police were not shying away from tackling Asian gangs pimping underage girls in (mainly) Northern cities for fear of 'causing offence'.

Criminals should be dealt with regardless of race or religion as criminals. Some crimes are predominantly white, some black, some asian, some- like this- by religious affiliation. The Government and The Police should get on with tackling it and stop treating us like idiots by pretending otherwise.

I do hope that this project sees an end to this disgusting violence towards women and children, although I fear we've had enough 'projects to raise awareness and understanding' in every area of social problem under the Leftie liberals, and it might be a good time to simply say: 'This is wrong, it's not acceptable and don't do it or you'll face the full weight of the law.'

I'm sick to the back teeth of the attitude that every criminal, women beater, teenage yob or religious nutcase is 'misunderstood' and professional and the rest of us need to attend some 'workshop' so we don't offend them.

I think the above comments is incredibly uninformed I would be very interested in how many years experience the above person has dealing with honour based violence and forced marriage victim's or the subject area generally to comment with such "authority"? From the research I have done I can see the issue does in fact affect Christian, Sikh and hindu communities amongst others. This is an issue of culture and control and should not be used as an excuse to voice prejudice and bigoted attitudes. I find you comments insulting to the victims of these horrible cimes. Change the record and show some compassion instead of jumping to ignorant conclusions!

In some country, most of them, sometimes the criminal organization work together with police and share the money. i.e: girls selling, etc, which is very worst moral of policemen/women. My question is, how this professional bodies can eliminate this issue?
